The most striking feature of Banff was the construction of the mountains. To the east, you could see the flat "back" of the mountains, which had been level ground at one point. The ridge was the broken, jagged edge where the land had sheared and then upended. All of these mountains shown here were one flat section. The opposite face (visible on the mountains to the west) showed beautiful strata.
